I bought the first two volumes of The Ancient Magus’ Bride by Kore Yamazaki on impulse. I’ll admit to finding the “beauty and the beast” vibe attractive … and reviewers on GoodReads hinted at a setting lush in whimsical detail. Within the first few pages, I was in love. Chise is a magically-powerful girl bought at auction by Elias, an inhuman being whose very existence is veiled in mystery. Elias gives Chise a home and makes her his apprentice and mentions—oh, by the way—that she’ll become his bride.
My gut says this manga will become a top favorite for me. Plenty of drama, tender moments, and sure pacing. I’m continually delighted by the strength and diversity of the side characters. (I can’t tell you my current favorite because it’d spoil the surprise.) Needless to say, I bought more—as of this posting, four volumes are out—and put upcoming titles on pre-order.
Bonus: I see there are trailers for an anime adaptation!
I keep eying this to read! I think once I catch up on Nisekoi I’ll start this series actually.

I went from pleasantly surprised to besotted pretty quickly. Definitely my kind of story. ::twinkle::
