Loser
Coop took Shilah aside.
The coyote sulkily said, “We don’t always win. And sometimes, when we lose, we lose everything.”
“What’s the matter? Is this about being… Broken?”
Shilah bitterly said, “You’re so happy. You’re so whole.”
“You’re not?”
“My soul shattered.”
“Does it hurt?”
“I don’t feel it. I can’t feel it.” Shilah kept his voice low. “There are things you don’t know you have until you lose them.”
“Can I help?”
The coyote stole a look in the direction the others had gone. “Would you do something if I asked it?”
“Probably?”
“Even if it was something awful?”
