The game that unfolded was part tag, part hide-and-seek, and part race, even if nobody seemed to know where the finish line was.
Torloo wasn’t taking the chase too seriously. His only goal was to make certain that Coop was safe. But Shilah was showing off. And cheating. Although Coop had to admit that they hadn’t exactly set up any rules. This was more of a free-for-all.
Partway through, Jiminy teamed up with him, tossing invisible barriers to stymie their pursuers. It worked for a while.
“I think this is checkmate.” Jiminy wryly admitted, “Tricksters always win.”
Shilah’s lip curled.
