The Second Door
Coop peeked into an industrial kitchen full of copper cookware and redheads. The second door led into a homier space. The stove was still huge, but there was a rug under the table, plants on a windowsill, and a cuckoo clock ticking softly on the wall.
The cello propped in the corner briefly distracted Coop, and when he turned back to the table, Torloo sat across from Shilah, who sulked with his arms crossed, watching closely to see who Coop would pick.
Torloo subtly waved him toward the coyote.
Sitting, Coop asked, “Smells good, yeah?”
Shilah grumbled, “Too much nutmeg.”
