Coop felt cheated. And then he felt awful about it. “I’m the worst. Sorry, Mutt.”
“You have done no wrong,” Torloo quietly pointed out.
“Kinda wanted to, though.” That was an understatement.
Torloo’s brows rose. “You?”
Mutt tipped his head to one side, his cockamamie ear making him look especially quizzical.
“I want to see your beautiful face again. So much.”
“If we ask Father to ward you, it should be safe.”
“Maybe we could.” Coop stroked Mutt’s muzzle and whispered, “Maybe we shouldn’t.”
“Why not?”
He admitted, “It’ll make me wish even harder that I was Mutt’s special person.”
