Mutt lay down, and Coop dismounted, wading through waist-high flowers to flop on his back between the wolf’s forelegs.

Not really a grovel. Definitely showing trust.

It earned him a belly prod. And eye contact.

“We should talk, doncha think?”

Mutt cocked his head, looking back the way they’d come. Where they’d left their translator behind.

Coop shrugged. “I know a little wolvish. First, though, teach me your name.”

He softly keened a sequence of tremulous notes.

Heart suddenly racing, Coop reached up.

Mutt lowered his muzzle, and Coop kissed its underside, begging… though for what, he couldn’t really say.
