It only took a few days before Coop gave in to temptation.

Explanations and reasons were… fine. But he was best at hands-on learning. Once he figured something out for himself, then he understood it.

Dad had always encouraged him to follow his curiosity, so long as he was within safe bounds. So he needed to follow Magda’s advice.

“Hey, Pierre!”

The older boy turned to consider him. “Coop.”

“Do you have some time right now? I need a ward.”

“You do? What for?”

Coop pointed toward the steep rise of the Denholme range. “Let’s go check out the Grovel.”
