They guys traded a look, then pointed to their tunics.
A glance around the dining hall confirmed clusters of kids in matching tunics. “You guys are color-coded! Sorry. I’m new. Didn’t realize. So what’s blue?”
“Wards.” Giang asked, “Are you a Betweener?”
“Sure am! My dad’s our pack’s alpha.”
“You’re being fostered by a wolf?” Pierre looked impressed.
“If he’s here, he’s a ranker,” said Giang.
Coop had always had trouble understanding grades and stuff. “My dad’s not big into tests. More… practical skills and lifelong learning. But guys, hold up. I’m not a reaver.”
