Coop planted his sneaker on Torloo’s flattened palm and grabbed fur. Between yanking fistfuls and Torloo’s boost, Coop was able to swing a leg over.

“Lower,” coached Torloo. “Rest on your elbows.”

“Gotcha.”

Torloo snugged up behind, arms encircling, hands also buried in Boon’s ruff. “Take a deep breath. And do not forget to breathe.”

Coop inhaled like he meant it.

“I have him. Go.”

Boon sprang, and Coop immediately wasted that good, deep breath, releasing it in an exuberant whoop.

From the direction of home came an answering howl. Daroo.

Torloo relayed, “He offers a blessing. Run with joy.”
