Bartering for Trust
During dinner, Boon and Uncle Moon talked about themselves. Coop could tell they were bartering for more trust. And that Dad was intrigued.
“So you raised Boon?”
Moon hummed. “He didn’t need raising. Mostly guidance. Dexes watch out for each other. And for loners.”
“But Daroo is a -fen, not a -dex.”
“I am not the Clearsong pack’s tribute. But I volunteered to stay behind.” Daroo made a handsign that begged for secrecy. “I have things to protect.”
Coop was disappointed when Daroo didn’t go on.
He was asking them to keep it a secret that he had a secret.
