Crisis Management

Coop ran the whole way, and Dad met them just inside the barrier. Taking one look, his father took charge. “Put your friend down. We need to stop the bleeding.”

The boy complied.

Dad stripped off his shirt and pressed it over a gunshot wound.

The big wolf snarled, and the Amaranthine boy flung his arms around their whole head, eyes squeezed shut, trying to hold back his tears. But when the boy spoke, his voice was steady. “Is there a healer nearby?”

Coop didn’t want to be the one to have to say no.

But then Dad answered, “Yes.”
