Thunder rolled in the west, and the wind picked up. Customers started hurrying their steps, and farmers began packing produce. Crafter stalls were already wrapped up tight when Chumani announced, “Rain’s almost here.”

“You have to go?”

“So do you.” She nodded significantly toward the spot where Dad and Daroo waited with Rose and the red wagon.

“Well… I’ll see you next time?”

“No promises.”

Coop’s heart sank. “But… I had fun.”

“And I have work.” With a pitying look, Chumani asked, “What do you know about coyotes?”

Almost nothing. But Coop squeezed her hand and ventured, “They like freckles?”
