Missing the Joke

Dad looked to Daroo for guidance. Their wolf said, “He will be fine.”

It sounded more like an order to Coop.

But Dad relaxed enough to say, “Sure. Have fun. I’ll head over to your stall next, say hello to your family.”

Daroo bent to whisper something in his ear.

Dad’s eyes widened, and he cracked a smile. “Really?”

“Thanks for the doughnuts!” Chumani said, pulling purposefully at Coop’s hand.

He was pretty sure he could hear Dad laugh… and even a low chuckle from Daroo. “What’s so funny?” he muttered.

Chumani’s eyes sparkled. “You’ll figure it out eventually, cub.”
