Switcheroo
When Coop opened his eyes again, a girl his own age stood beside the old woman, who was now gazing off, totally ignoring them.
“Hi …?” he offered.
“I’ll play with you until the rain starts.”
He immediately thrust out both hands. “I’m Coop.”
“Subtle you aren’t. And I still know who you are.” She grabbed one of his hands and tugged him along until they were both jogging. “Call me Chumani.”
“Where are we going?”
“You think I’m an idiot? First things first, cub.” She flashed a smile that made his heart flip. “We’re getting permission from your denmates.”

I love this so much. Your little shorts that build up to a massive story are so fantastic. they leave just enough between for our own imaginations to fill in the travel and possible interactions between scenes.
