  1. I have been reading your stories since 2011. To be honest, your writing is really beautiful and I can literally see how with time you have improved and polished your skills. The progression and how your plot lines unraveled five years ago and now are completely different. Both good. But you’ve gotten so much better at it. I absolutely crave it and love it.

However, if the stories weren’t as good as they are, I wouldn’t have read them. Or continue to do so.
I left plenty of reviews but I rarely (and rarely is too much) see you leaving a “Thank you” of sorts to anyone at all. And I don’t like that… You feel detached and cold.

You are a fantastic writer. But as a person? No idea. You don’t strike me as the friendly kind.
Good thing you got your writing skills.

I think this should be in your About.
And I say the above with all due respect.

Hope you have a fantastic weekend.

    • You’re completely right. I don’t often respond to reviews, and my interaction in fandom has dwindled considerably. One reason I created this blog was so I’d have a place to connect (and reconnect) with fandom friends.

It’s said that authors bare their souls in their books. Every story reveals some portion of their heart. If you love my stories as much as you say you do, then perhaps we can claim a certain kinship. Thank you for your compliments. I’m sorry that my reserve has left you lonely. All I can hope is that you’ll continue to find what you wish in the stories I spin.

      With a return of respect,

      ~forthy

      • “It’s said that authors bare their souls in their books.” If so, you have a beautiful soul. And beautiful is putting it mildly.

You don’t know how many times I’ve read Lord Charming alone. And I look for updates like I’m a starving dog and they’re my next meal.
I believe I’ve read most if not all of your stories. Whatever story I haven’t read, it’s only because it slipped right through my fingers or I don’t always have the time to go through your (many) profiles and check what’s new on a daily basis.

I wish you finish all of your stories. They’re all brilliant. I hope you keep on writing… And when you publish a book (and I really hope that you some day do), be sure I’ll read that, too.

Also, the kinship? I’ll gladly take you up on that.

Thank you for having been so gracious about my first comment.

        Sincerely,
        K

          • For what it’s worth, I’ve never gotten the impression that you’re cold or detached. You communicate beautifully and, frankly you’ve gotten so many reviews over the years, I don’t know how you could possibly respond to all of them and still have time to do anything else. You’re a brilliant writer and, like so many others, I’ve spent a lot of time reading and rereading your works over the years, but I don’t think you owe me (or any other fans) any more than you are willing and comfortable giving.

  2. I just wanted to leave a note somewhere; I’very been a fan for quite a few years now and I just want to say thank you. Every new chapter of Lord Charming, and every story before it these past few years, is the absolute highlight of my day. You have such a wonderful gift to say so much with such short chapters it keeps me wanting more everyday! I hate when the weekend comes and I have to wait until Monday, haha. Again, thank you for gifting is all with your wonderful talent and brining some happiness to my dreary life. ❤

  3. Hey,
Just wanted to say kudos for weaving so many enthralling tales and keeping us all hooked.
I have been a fan of your writing for many years now and you make me ship ships I never thought I would. (See: Savvy and Faint Heart) And like all of your other readers I am guilty of wanting more so I have a question for you.
Dearest Forthy, *where* can I read your original fiction?
    Love,

    • Maybe one day I’ll give my first readers a hint or two on where to find other stories I’ve written, but I’ve been shy about allowing real life and fandom to collide. However, I’ve come up with a plan… and a whole new world. In the coming year, I’ll unveil an original series that’ll be equal parts new and nostalgic for my readers. Once the first manuscript is ready to publish, I’ll let everyone know! ::twinkle::

  4. Hello, Forthright. I can’t say for sure just how long I’ve been reading your stories, but that’s irrelevant. I’ve loved your work from the moment I first stumbled upon it. Your work is absolutely beautiful and has helped to shape some of my own writing. Your ideas are so creative and unique in so many ways, and that has very much helped me to give form to my own ideas and imagination.

Your stories have, in many ways, helped me in my life outside of writing as well. For a long time, my life was… shall we say, “less than stellar”. Fics like “Unspoiled”, “Lord Charming”, and “Imperceptible” helped me escape some of it once in a while, which helped me to cope.

I can’t thank you enough for writing these fics, for all these reasons listed and more. I wish you the very best with your writing and your life as a whole, and I sincerely hope that you never stop writing.

Thank you again, Forthright, for everything you do.

  5. Hello Forthright!
I would first like to thank you for all of your beautiful tales. I’ve been a fan for years!
My TRUE reason for this reply, however, is that I’d like to ask you a question that has been bugging me after re-reading ‘Lord Charming.’

I must warn you that this question will be asked much like Luis from Ant Man would ask, only because the question appeared after a series of thoughts upon finishing the story, and they are as follows:

    1) I love the way Forthright has written the Western Lady!!!
    2) Hmmm, it’s been hinted that she found her much-deserved happiness with Inuyasha, but I just can’t accept that. It’s too weird. I wonder who…
    3) Her son has dark hair. A disguise? Possibly. He’s also very articulate and seems as calm and calculating as his mother. Human Inuasha has dark hair, as do Rin, Kohaku, Miroku…
    4) THAT MONK!!!!
    5) Miroku’s sons would be devastating. They would certainly be powerful, intelligent, charming as their father, and possibly even more handsome with Sango as their mother.
    6) Did one of Miroku’s sons make their father proud, so proud, by ensnaring the heart of Sesshomaru’s mother?!!!
    7) I mean, I could totally see Miroku winning Milady! At least, this version of her.
    8) And Forthright loves Miroku!

So finally, my question is this: is there any chance of a future story, even a Drabble, that features our favorite Monk & Sesshomaru’s mother?

    Maybe?

  6. Hello there, Forthmom!

It’s been a very long time… life is hectic and growing up stinks. I was feeling particularly nostalgic yesterday and whilst going through old memories, fan arts, and internet page favorites… I stumbled on Lord Charming. And to my delight, it was finished!

Thank you one again for the laughs, gasps, and cries you always instill.

I hope all the mini-Forths are well! I’d love to catch up sometime!

    Love, Fox

P.S. I was so pleasantly delighted to see you still use the art I gave you… thank you for that!

  7. Hello! Long-time fan here. Every fall I re-read Unexpected to get into the season and I’m always inspired to bake waaaaay too much when I’m done. Here’s a little inspiration from Unexpected, Chapter 3 “It’s Nothing” (Mid-September). I call them Mrs. Higurashi’s Ginger Apple Cookies. I thought Mrs. H couldn’t resist including Red Gate Farm’s signature flavor (apple) in her cookies so I glazed them. Also I prefer soft cookies to snaps so I AU-ed a bit. 🙂 They’re earthy and tender with a tart kick on top—just like Kagome. Enjoy!

    COOKIES
    ¾ cup softened butter
    ½ cup sugar
    ½ cup brown sugar
    1 egg
    ¼ cup molasses
    2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
    4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
    ¼ teaspoon salt

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and molasses. Combine all dry ingredients and add them to the wet mixture. Roll into ping pong balls. Bake at 350 for 7 minutes. Take them out and quickly divot the center with the back of a spoon. Put them back in for 3-4 minutes.

    GLAZE
    1 ½ cups apple cider
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    2/3 cup confectioner’s sugar.

Reduce cinnamon and cider to 1/3 its original size. Stir in sugar slowly until a glaze consistency is met (this may take some experimentation to get it right).

  8. not sure if this is an okay place to just leave a general inquiry… very big fan btw and the wait for your book to come out, plus the final chapter of Imperceptible, which truly was the beginnings of my love of Sess/Kag (NO ONE writes them like you), is killing me. Are there any of your fanfics you don’t think you’ll complete? I’ve always hoped one day you’d go back to your IY x YYH crossover ‘Affinity’ …

Thank you for all of the writing you’ve blessed us with over the years.

Thank you for your compliments! And to answer your question… I would very much like to nudge all my stories to their intended conclusions. It will take a Long Time because of my original writing, but patience and persistence should see us through. AND, as it happens, Affinity is rather close to the top of my To Do list because it won’t take long to wrap it up (relatively speaking).

  9. Oh my goodness, I just had to leave a note for you somewhere. It’s been quite some time since you were regularly updating, and I I’ll be honest, I wasn’t checking your blog to keep up with things (terrible of me really). I was so happy to see the notifications for new chapters for some of your WIPs! And I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was to see the information about your original work! I was so excited I ordered a digital copy for myself and a paper copy for my mom, who I think will enjoy your writing style a lot.

I am beyond happy to see you in my daily life again. I’ve been following your stories for years; I think you said somewhere that you wrote Imperceptible a decade ago?!?! Has it really been that long?l I can’t believe It! Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us for all these years, and for being a part of my life for so long too. I may not know you personally, but your writing has always given me something to cherish and look forward to.

I wish you many more years of happy writing (or “wiring” as my phone wants to autocorrect to??). Thank you ❤

  10. I am possibly one of the most technologically challenged people on the planet. I found your site (obviously!) after reading Ilona’s post about your book, then buying and reading your book. I see that there are multiple things you have written, and I see comments that others have read them. I think I would like to read them, but I’m not sure how to do that. Clicking on the pictures doesn’t do anything………..did I mention I’m challenged in this area? I’m happy I’ve learned to send a text message with a picture attached!

I look forward to reading and promoting the rest of the stories in the Amaranthine Saga as you publish them. I signed up for your newsletter; will you alert us to upcoming releases there?

  15. Hi,

Another dedicated fan of yours here. Years ago, your fanfiction helped sustain me and get me through. I still reread it sometimes.

Now, your original stories are my go-to for bad days and lonely moments.

I rarely leave reviews or reach out, but I realized, maybe you should know how important your work has become in my life. You have inspired and challenged my writing, and you have created a world that is a safe place for my heart to rest. It would be difficult to overstate how grateful I am.

So, for all you’ve done and I’m sure still will do, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

  16. Hello! I’ve read your stories when I was 12 years old, and now I’m 20! So you could say I grew up with your writing. You’re one of the authors I most admire because you taught me that Fandom writing is still true writing. I used to love the interactions between your character and their banter and chemistry when I was young, and now when I reread, I can finally appreciate your writing styles.

Yours stories shaped a lot of my early notions of romance and relationships when others around me showed me unhealthy pictures of it, so I’m grateful for that. Now they also bring with them a warmth and nostalgia. When the characters spoke I always imagined your thoughts as you wrote them down, the way you’d giggle and scheme to bring them together or pull them apart. When I read, I always felt like I wasn’t reading alone, as if you and the fandom all felt the same feelings as we read the same words. It was a salve for my sadder years.

Anyway, I only just found out about your official works now. I hope to be a long-time fan (or longer time, it’s almost been a decade). I hope you’re still having fun writing and will come back to the fandom, because trust me when I say we have never forgotten you! ❤

  17. Dear Forthright,

Forthright, wow…simply wow. I wish I can articulate better what you have crafted here with the story Imperceptible.

I simply have no words. The beauty of how this was crafted and the journey of small details in the one shots and how this turned into a greater tale is simply breathtaking.

I won’t lie in the last chapters this is not at all what I expected. You carried us through the small, calm moments that showed a shifting over days and tea. And then in those last few chapters it felt like free falling. So great were the turns and moments of the story that I was swept away in an incredible grand finale.

It is what should have happened. I know those of us here are bias to Sesshomaru and Kagome and that in itself separates from the series but was this story and conclusion was so well earned here in your story. The last two chapters had me in tears.

This is what should have come at the end. I know this is meant to be fan fiction. But wow did this earn its keep in the Inuyasha series. The heartbreak, the loss, the grief and the resolution. My god this was just brilliant. Your story and the development of Sesshomaru and Kagome characters was nothing short of masterful. I will be honest only just recently (2 months ago) learning of what path they have Sesshomaru take in Yashahime I ran back to the safety of Dokuga and the Sess x Kag fanfiction site. In that the paring with Rin was just so off and wrong that I needed to read so many Sess x Kag pieces to rid my mind of it. But your way and explanation of such really made me rethink it, here it felt earned and in keeping with this story and Sesshomaru’s arc.

I wish Rumiko Takahashi would read your piece. This is why fan fiction is so important. What you did with Sesshomaru and Kagome should be made into the series.

I am so grateful to you for this wonderful story. I don’t know if you plan to write more, I hope you do. I hope many more are fortunate to read what you have crafted here. It is sad to see that the Sess x Kag fraction seems to have died down to almost nothing. But boy, are there treasures here.

This was a beautiful, sweet, heartbreaking and elegant story, thanks for continuing to keep the Sesshomaru and Kagome spirit alive. I will treasure this story and look forward to re-reading it over and over again through time.

  18. I love your books. As such I was wondering if you’ve ever considered submitting them for review? I work for an Indie magazine that reviews self published and small publisher books, and we are always looking for books in multiple genres including fantasy. Considering how hard it is to find books like yours that aren’t either manga or more western urban fantasy, I think there are many readers who would like to know about your books. If you want to do it, you can check out the magazines website. http://www.indtale.com If not, just know I personally really enjoy your books and look forward to “the finicky nestmate!”

Enjoy your books immensely and was finally interested in your fanfiction as I am a bit more into the cannon pairings in regard to Inuyasha. My problem is that your fanfiction account brings up a 404 message. I am unsure it is me or if they updated your page away. Is there anyway to read them otherwise?
Thanks and I await many new stories.

  20. Hello! I’ve been reading your stuff since I was like? 16? I think. Anyways you’ve stayed my favorite author from the way you write you snippet stories to your more involved stuff. Then I can finally read your books and it’s like a gold mine. Your writing has always been beautiful and wrote in a way that’s so easily fallen into. I’ve spent hours reading and re reading lord charming, following all the way to mood stripes. Your janitor novel and the fanfic version are fantastic as well. Your stories got me through being a homeless adolescent to an abusive husband to now being throughly enjoined I’m a safe home surrounded by love. Thank you for making what you’ve made and for the impact you’ve done to my life. Never stop writing it is definitely made for you. 21. Hello! I didn’t know where else to place this request or how to go about getting it to you but I’m hoping this reaches you well! When you have spare time and aren’t swamped with deadlines, is it possible to have a continuation on Greta and Ambrose’s story like you’ve been doing with Coop’s? I fell in love with those two after reading Governed by Whimsy and would like to see how their little family is doing and if Greta had her youngest safely. If you have time and the desire to do so, I’d be ever so grateful if you could show us how the two and their company have been getting on since the Song reached its end! If not, then I understand! Publishing and keeping up with orders is stressful (and time consuming) business. I hope you are in good health! Thank you for bringing this series alive for me with your writing!
