Claimer: I do hereby claim all rights and responsibility for the characters in this series of vignettes because the Amaranthine Saga is mine. (Which means I should probably behave myself since anything I say or do could be taken as canon.) Indulge the lot of us, especially the one who rises to any challenge.

Sigil and Stone
The upstairs hallway was quiet. “You sure your boy’s here?”
“May I?” Michael offered his hand.
Feeling unaccountably shy, Jacques let him take hold and wished—not for the first time—that he’d had a man like Michael for a father.
The hallway bloomed into dozens of gleaming patterns that wheeled sleepily. Except where they were broken.
“Why does this work? I’m no reaver.”
“You have powerful sigils on your forehead and your palm. Using the stone in my ring, I… well, I’m improvising.”
“Will it last?”
“Sensei’s sigil is already degrading. Would you be open to something more permanent?”

So Jacques is starving for attention and feels utterly unloved. I wish we knew more about where that comes from. In the book his mother is obsessed with Bon Bon, but what happened with his dad? any friends? And what exactly went on with Argent? Obviously something awful, but how is Jacques simultaneously still glomming onto Argent and excoriated about whatever history they have? It’s hard to hold onto both those feelings, and it sounds like Jacques is shifted all the way over to needy and losing sight of repentance. Anyway, he’s a very interesting character and I’m glad Tamiko is expanding Argent’s heart enough that he now sees the ways Jacques got hurt too and now is trying to help.

Gentle reminder that Jacques has been at Stately House for a grand total of four months.
Give him time. When we see him in Bk3 (roughly seven years hence), he’s brimming with confidence.

With all the care he is getting from Stately House denizens he should be starting to feel much more comfortable. ❤️❤️❤️
