Chapter 163: Rewritten

Kagome’s scent mingled pleasantly with the two bottles of shampoo she upended onto Shishi. Her purposefulness settled Sesshoumaru’s jangling nerves. Her happiness, a power unto itself. If only Kohaku would return.

His absence was a gap. A loss? No, a missing piece.

Kagome was telling an enraptured Shishi her story, although she’d contrived to add Sesshoumaru to the adventure. As if he’d been more than a passerby.

That he’d mattered to his brother.

That they’d considered him an ally.

That he was noble and good.

Sesshoumaru couldn’t decide if he wanted to correct her misconceptions… or live up to them.
