Chapter 48: Connected

What wish? Kagome doubted Sesshoumaru’s heart’s desire had been a make-over. And I certainly didn’t ask for—let alone imagine—something like this.

She was definitely the only one seeing the color show, but it was also obvious that the others were reacting to it. Certain shades of green brought Shippo running, but oranges sent him scurrying. And Inuyasha mostly grumbled at the oranges, but black turned him silent and solicitous.

Throughout the day, the pattern held true, and Kagome realized that Sesshoumaru’s stripes now served a puzzling purpose. Color coding. His infamously unreadable face was now open to interpretation.

  2. Wow. Does this mean that Kagome, a human, is now privy to Sesshoumaru’s most intricate feelings and moods, just like demons are with their enhanced sense of smell? So Kagome, if she can learn his colors enough, could probably be able to discern even better and more accurately then the fellow demons? Oh man Forthy, you never cease to amaze…

  4. I’m thinking it’s because Kagome is a miko, that sets her apart from the other humans in the group in being more sensitive. After all, she is the reincarnation of Kikyou, has shown an ability to sense the Shikon shards, and other youkai in the past.
    Shippou can sense Sesshoumaru’s mood changes because he’s a fellow youkai, though because he’s young, he might not be able to see or interpret them as much as Inuyasha can.
    Inuyasha is a hanyou, but aside from Kagome, has had more interaction with Sesshoumaru, and has gotten used to the mood swings so much that they’re “old hat” to him now; he doesn’t give it a second notice.
    There hasn’t been any mention of Kirara (yet), though I’d tend to think she’d be the one who’s the most sensitive out of all of the group. Animals tend to be that way. 😉

  5. What was Sesshōmaru’s wish? Kagome needs to question Sesshōmaru about what he was thinking. Did he turn the jewel to dust? Maybe Kagome can read him, but I can’t. This is more frustrating than the early chapters of “Lord Charming.” What about his feet? Why not wish back Jaken, Rin and Ah-Un? What are we missing Forth? Are we not picking up the clues, or are you not leaving any? I live for Tuesday and Friday!

    • Green= pain
      Orange=anger
      Black= despair/sadness/guilt?
      Shippo has been helping take care of him and telling Kagome when Sessh needs more medicine. A new wave of pain would bring him running.
      Shippo is also the first to run away when someone’s angry. Inuyasha’s probly used to it.
      Sadness and depression are something Inuyasha seems to be sensitive to. Finding and burying Sessh’s pack with dignity. As a fellow alpha, he knows how it would feel if his pack was killed.
