Editing Mode

You may have noticed that I haven’t been updating my fanfics. (Though you’ve been kind not to mention it.) One of the main reasons I haven’t been keeping up is because I’ve been in full-on Editing Mode. For some reason, I work best if I focus on one or the other.

This time, the culprit is Imperceptible. Do you have any idea what it’s like to read something you wrote a decade ago?

TT___TT

Ninety-nine chapters of old habits, wordy phrasing, sudden shifts in POV, clunky dialogue tags, stray typos, and missing scene breaks (okay, those were FF.net’s fault). The writing wasn’t bad. Let’s go with unpolished. So I did a bit of refining. You probably won’t notice any of my changes (unless you’ve reread Imperceptible so often, my typos have become familiar landmarks).

Yesterday, I re-uploaded every chapter—revise/replace x99.

Which means everything is ready for the final chapter! Imperceptible, Chapter 100 is scheduled to post on February 22, 2018 as a part of the Release Day festivities for Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox!

  1. I don’t know how you did it but you read my mind. I was thinking about rereading Imperceptible to read that so anticipated final chapter. Since you edited the whole story (which in my opinion was already perfect) I’m pumped! I’ll start today! Don’t worry about not updating fast enough. As long as you finish your works, I’ll wait until I’m dead.
Btw! I read some old Miroku-Kagome fics and I loved them! Could you write something fresh one day? I never considered them as a couple and now that I read your amazing drabbles and one shots and fics about them, I can’t get over them! I need more!
    Keep up the amazing work!

    • also oh man I found a fanfic I wrote back when I was 14 (Young Justice x Sailor Moon crossover). I wrote like 30 chapters of that thing including an extended foray into New York City (which at that point I hadn’t been to yet for anything but a school trip). I cringed so hard I accidentally deleted the entire folder completely (something I minorly regret now).

        • I haven’t been updating my old ones – been rewriting them more like, its interesting right? i’ve been in fandom since I was 13 so some of my attempts are really good indicators of where I was as a person too.

          • A lot of my fandom friends grew up with my writing. So while I’m cheerfully goofing off with you as cohorts and co-conspirators, I’ve also always had a rather wide protective streak that I associate with wanting to mother my younger readers.

I’ve known a lot of you for ten years! ::twinkle::

  3. Thank you so much for all of your dedication to your characters and your fans. I pre-ordered the book (to loan or give) and will get the digital (for me) as soon as it is available. I am so super stoked about all of the awesome reading material you are sending our way. Thanks for sharing these awesome characters and stories!!

  4. I cringe in sympathy, Forthy. I do. A shiver just went down my spine. I’ve looked at my writing from when I first started, and even up to just five or six years ago, and it’s always a visceral “WHAT WAS I THINKING” reaction. =v=;;

I left a comment on Twitter too, but as soon as Amazon has the kindle version for pre-order IT SHALL BE MINE~!! ^7^/ There’s no way I wouldn’t purchase a book by my favorite fanfiction author! (I would also jump on buying your fanfiction as eBooks, honestly. 8] ) Feb 22 can’t come soon enough!

    • I know, right? Writers understand how truly frightening a backward glance can be. ::wink::

That ebook has to show up sooner or later. It must go through a different department at the printer.

  8. I’ve been reading your work for as long (I worry that someday you’ll tire of our sesskag). I’m also a poet and know exactly what you’re talking about. I’m revising my book of poetry that I’ve been working on since 2011. I feel like Robert Lowell.

You are a very good writer.
